A tough, almost hot, day into a head wind. There were also some significant climbs, which didn't lead to helpful descents.

We managed the 90kms from our camp by the side of the road to Pimba. It was an especially tough last 40kms for Vero.

On one of our stops Kel, a South African who came to Australia to be a crew member on the 1965 winner of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, stopped to have a chat. He had jumped ship in Cairns in January 1966 because he loved the place so much. Living now on the Gold Coast, he is doing a slow 2 year caravan trip around Australia, which he hopes to write a book about. Kel reckons no-one has written a book on the subject yet. Plenty of magazine articles, but no book. He was in Pimba when we arrived.

[Said he'd send me the photos he took of us, which he did. Some of them are included in the photos below.

Pimba is a basic road house with a rest stop near by. Nice shower after a long day. It was free to pitch our tents among the septic tank outlets. We had tea in the roadhouse.
