Day 1 was a Saturday. In the morning it was overcast and looked like it would rain. There had been incessant rain the day before. Pierre and Vero had arrived the previous Sunday so we had sat around for long enough. What's more our flights back were booked. Fully packed for the first time we set off. Within a 100 metres of the descent down Old Belaide Road the weather started to clear. The road was wet, but sky had patches of blue.

We rode into the centre of Adelaide and then out the other side. Wherever possible we travelled along bikepaths. There are a few. For a while we disappeared into the back blocks of Elizabeth and emerged at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre for our first meal on the road. After eating we went in search of the Stuart O'Grady Bikeway, which took us almost to Gawler. However, not before the first of many punctures for Pierre. He ran over a clump of three corner jacks picking up about 10 or 12 of them. Luckily we had a spare as the tube was punctured beyond repair.

Camp was the Gawler Caravan Park by the Gawler River. The tents were pitched, we showered and then went into town in search of an evening meal. We settled on chinese. Then it was back home to sleep.

The day's objective had been reached albeit with some head scratching as to the direction we should take as we came through the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Having started out in uncertain weather, by the end of the day it was sun and blue sky. It had been a pleasant start to our journey.
