Pierre had ridden around a lot of Australia's coastline leaving a ride into the interior as the great undone. Specifically we imagined a ride between Adelaide and Darwin along the Stuart Highway. No more than that was decided except for agreeing that riding 100kms a day was doable. This meant the ride would take about 30 days to cover the 3000 or so kms.
Pierre and Veronique went back to France getting on with life and out of infrequent and small acts the idea to ride across Australia was realised.
Pierre and Vero got the necessaries together and returned to Australia in May, which one of the small acts determined to offer the kindest weather, 2014. The kindest weather was also thought to be on offer if we rode from Adelaide to Darwin rather than Darwin to Adelaide. It would be cold, but not freezing, in the south and centre, and the dry season, with its milder, cooler temperatures, should have taken hold by the time we reached the northern parts.
Altogether we gave ourselves 6 weeks between leaving and having to catch a plane back. It would mean about 30 days riding, a few days resting and a fudge factor.
...go to day 1 - May10
